About Concrete Solutions®

Concrete Solutions® with our many years of experience of installing Tyfo® FRP products are capable of assisting you with your strengthening requirements.

Our services include free, no obligation design work by our Fyfe Engineers, through to management and installation of the Tyfo systems.  We can also arrange PS1’s for any design work carried out if required.

About Fyfe Tyfo® Fibrwrap®

Since 1988, The Tyfo® Fibrwrap® Systems have been tested and proven for effectiveness and durability. Over 500 structural and material tests, both destructive and non-destructive, have been performed on the Tyfo® Fibrwrap® Systems. These include full-scale structural testing for a variety of design goals, long-term environmental durability testing, and in-situ testing of actual installations. The result is reliable composite strengthening systems that have demonstrated intended design performances.

The Fyfe Group is comprised of engineers, designers, material specialists, material manufacturers and project support personnel. Working together, this team provides innovative construction products and technical support to meet the needs of engineers, contractors and owners.

Tyfo® a lightweight tension member for columns, beams, walls and slabs

Seismic Retrofit

The Tyfo® Fibrwrap® System is an ideal method to improve the seismic performance of buildings including URM structures. The high strength to weight ratio of composite materials allow for significant increase in performance, while adding minimal dead weight to the structure. Additional shear capacity, flexural capacity and rotational capacity can be added to columns, beams, slabs and walls. The Tyfo® Fibrwrap® System can also be designed to act as a drag strut or provide member-to-member shear transfer.

Uses

  • In-plane shear strength
  • In-plane flexural strength
  • Out-of-Plane flexural strength
  • Shear transfer between wall panels
  • Ductility
  • Axial strength

Structural Upgrades

The Tyfo® Fibrwrap® System can be used to improve the load carrying capacity and structural performance of both reinforced concrete and masonry walls of a building. Additional shear and flexural capacity can be added to beams, columns, slabs and walls. The system has been used extensively for civil infrastructure such as bridges, tunnels and elevated roadways worldwide. It allows for increased load ratings, rehabilitation of corroded or desressted members, extension of service life and even construction error remediation.

The Tyfo® AFP System can be used to provide UL tested hourly fire ratings when required.

Tyfo® Fibrwrap® Anchoring Systems

Tyfo® Anchor

The fibre anchor concept was invented ( US Patent #7,574,840 B1) and developed by Fyfe Co. LLC in order to improve the performance of various Tyfo® Fibrwrap® System designs. The low profile, non-corrosive fibre anchor is manufactured using the Tyfo® SCH (primary carbon) and SEH (primary glass) fibres combined with the Tyfo® S epoxy.

Testing has been conducted by The University of Canterbury New Zealand, The University of Texas at Austin, The University of California at San Diego, The US Army Corps of Engineers, The University of Washington, Washington State University, The University of Patras, Ain Sham University in Cairo and The University of Toronto. Our research continues at these and other universities in order to improve and refine these designs and details.

Uses

  • Develop tension forces though obstacles
  • Develop tension and shear forces by embedment
  • Improve structural performance of beam and wall shear designs
  • Improve structural performance of beam and slab flexural designs
  • Prevent pull-out and/or de-bonding at ultimate loads

Tyfo® Rehabilitation of Existing Structures

Alkali-silica Reaction (ASR)

Concrete Solutions® has successfully rehabilitated structures containing ASR such as bridges by applying Tyfo® wet-lay fabrics for providing confinement and preventing water from entering into the concrete.

Structural concrete repairs have incorporated the use of Tyfo® products due to their unique properties of being light weight, non-corrosive, applied to the structures exterior and are relatively easy to apply. These properties enable an array of rehabilitation applications including; additional reinforcement to badly spalled concrete, ASR confinement and preventing chemical attack. Rehabilitation is not just limited to concrete structures but has also included steel and timber structures such as bridges and wharf piles.

Tyfo® PR Jackets and underwater applications

  • Thoroughly tested at independent laboratories
  • Can prevent the onset of corrosion when applied to new structural elements
  • Can be installed below the water line
  • Excellent long-term material properties in water
  • Can be used on circular, square, rectangular, hexagonal, flared and alternative shaped cross sections
  • Cost-effective
